The Royal Scientific Society / National Energy Research Centre conducted a 3-days training on Water, Energy Food Nexus in Tunisia in partnership with the municipalities of Manouba and Raoued from 27-29 December 2022.
The training aims to capacitate the project municipalities to apply Water-Food-Energy Nexus approach as an important framework for promoting a coherent, holistic and integrated implementation of the related Sustainable Development Goals, and secure access to the three critical resources in the long run.
The training highlighted the importance of:
- Understanding the synergies and trade-offs between competing uses of water, land and energy related resources.
- Embracing a cross-sectoral, coherent and integrated perspective.
- Promoting the integration of goals across sectors and reducing the risk of sector-specific SDG actions undermining each other.
- Leveraging the local capacities and technical knowledge on how to implement efficient and sustainable climatic actions.
Over a set of sessions, the participants were exposed to the principle of WEF-NEXUS and its reflections in the Mediterranean region, and created a common understanding of challenges and potential opportunities in applying WEF Nexus technical solutions at their municipal level.
