During the second day of the MINARET First Regional Platform, FPEC representative Mr. Rami Al-Akhras, on behalf of the MINARET team, accompanied by SIDA representative Ms. Yosra Al-Bakkar as well as members of the Jordanian and Tunisian Parliaments visited the Tunisian Parliament to discuss NEXUS and decentralization. The visit concluded with all parties to move forward on the establishment of a joint Arab parliamentary committee for the water, energy and food NEXUS. The heads of parliaments from the three countries will be approached to take the initial approval on the establishment of this committee. The next step is to approach the Arab Parliament to establish a NEXUS committee with clear authorities and action plan and to have it among its permanent committees. This committee would advocate and coordinate efforts between energy and water committees throughout the region.
Besides, a Jordanian consultant provided participants with an overview on the decentralization situation in Jordan and provided examples and lessons learned (i.e. Ensuring municipal elections.
