The Royal Scientific Society / National Energy Research Centre is pleased to announce the launching of the second phase of MINARET project “Empowering Municipal Governance for Climate Resilience Using WEF Nexus Approach” which will be implemented by the Royal Scientific Society in Jordan, Lebanon and Tunisia with the support of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ, Germany) and in alignment with the Regional Dialogue Program (NRDP).
This phase comes to reinforce the sustainable development of climate change response plans, and capitalize the successful achievements of phase one of MINARET in Jordan, Tunisia and Lebanon over the past four and half years (2016-2021), which was implemented by the Royal Scientific Society/ The National Energy Research Centre, in partnership with the International Union for Conservation Nature (IUCN), and Horizons for Green Development, with the support of the Swedish Agency for Development and International Cooperation (Sida).
MINARET II with its innovative tools continues to enhance the local communities’ resilience to climate change; through facilitating policy dialogue among experts and key partners from public and private sectors in the fields of renewable energy, water, climate change and many other sectors; contributing to the sustainable development goals at municipal level in Middle East and North Africa; strengthening municipal capacities to plan and manage climate change adaptation and mitigation measures, and empowering municipalities to secure financing and develop the skills they need to deliver high-quality public services, particularly in relation to natural resources management.
MINARET II initiative is implemented in the context of the Nexus Regional Dialogues Programme, which is implemented by RSS on behalf of GIZ, and co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
